Pre-release. HareBox is a working local build with no public service yet. Statuses on every feature say what runs today; speed and reliability figures are targets until measured. Status

Desktop

Partly builtSome of this works today; the page says which parts.

Every sandbox can run a 1920×1080 Linux desktop, with Xfce and Chrome, that you open in a browser to watch an agent work or take over. It starts on first use, so a sandbox that never needs one pays nothing for it.

Status: works on real VMs: the stream page, screenshots, input, the accessibility tree and recordings are checked by HareBox's real-VM tests. The stream is noVNC, and its frame rate hasn't been measured yet. On the labelled simulator, these calls return placeholders.

harebox new --name desk
harebox desktop current

harebox desktop returns a private URL. It carries a token that expires with the session, ten minutes by default, and at most a day with --expires-seconds, so a shared link stops working on time.

How it reaches your browser

The desktop runs inside the VM: a virtual display (Xvfb), Xfce, a VNC server and noVNC, all bound to the VM's own loopback. Your browser connects to HareBox's edge, which checks the token and tunnels the connection to the VM through the guest agent. Nothing in the VM listens on a public address.

Record a session

REC=$(harebox record start current | jq -r .id)
harebox record list current
harebox record stop current "$REC"

A recording is an H.264 MP4 at 15 frames a second, saved in the sandbox at ~/.harebox/recordings/. The response gives its path; read it with harebox file read, or create a download URL.
