Windows apps through Wine
Automate a legacy Windows tool on a Linux desktop, driven by an agent through computer use.
For Operations teams with old desktop software
Why it pays
- No Windows licence server Many older Windows tools run under Wine on the Linux desktop.
- An agent can operate it Computer use clicks and types in the app the way a person would.
- A record of every run Recordings show exactly what happened.
Step by step
Install Wine and the app
Then save the result as a template.
CLI
harebox new --name legacy harebox exec current -- ./install-wine-and-app.sh harebox template save current --name legacy-appLet an agent run the task on the desktop
It uses screenshots, clicks and typing.
CLI
harebox record start current harebox prompt current "Open the ledger app, export last month's report as CSV to ~/out" --harness claude --budget 2
Tips
- Not every Windows program runs under Wine, and there's no tested-apps list yet: try yours in a sandbox before you rely on it.
- Keep each run in its own sandbox from the template, so a crash never corrupts the next run.
